We drafted a new specification for exterior planters to guide consistent design, fabrication, and installation across our projects. The section follows CSI MasterFormat 32 93 46 and currently focuses on planters fabricated from weathering steel (ASTM A606/A588).
This first version defines the key performance requirements for durability, structural integrity, and coordinated integration with irrigation, drainage, and electrical systems. It also introduces clear distinctions between care during construction and maintenance after handover—an important step toward ensuring the long-term performance and appearance of these elements in the landscape.
The specification covers:

Coordination and administrative procedures for installation.

Detailed submittal requirements, including shop and installation drawings.

Quality assurance, mock-ups, and field testing.

Construction-period care instructions for managing oxidation and runoff.

Post-handover maintenance guidance for long-term patina development.
