Expertise
Tree-centric cities in the Gulf demand integrated solutions. We merge design, science, and engineering to reimagine urban spaces—cool, green, and sustainable places where people thrive in harmony with nature. Through our core team and as part of the Green Different Network, we deliver exceptional urban environments.
Landscape Architecture
We understand the importance of an authentic sense of place, follow the principles of urban design in creating spaces for people, and incorporate technical requirements to ensure urban forests grow healthy and large. Our principal designer, Laith Wark, has over 20 years experience designing landscapes in the Gulf region. Laith’s skill in design has lead the team to be selected to design nationally significant landscapes for the governments of the Sultanate of Oman and the United Arab Emirates.
Soil Science
Our soil science services enable robust plant growth and long-term vitality. In arid regions, site surveys are conducted to assess the potential for re-using existing topsoil, with or without amelioration, to deliver more sustainable outcomes. Soil characteristics play an important role in our rule-based planting design workflow, ensuring that plantings are matched to their environment for optimal success. Declan McDonald, our soil scientist, brings extensive expertise to these efforts, ensuring landscapes are rooted in healthy, sustainable soils that support long-term vitality.
Irrigation Engineering
Irrigation Engineering
Our irrigation engineering services ensure efficient water use. John Roy, our irrigation engineer, works closely with landscape architects to develop specific details that ensure long-term plant growth. He collaborates with our soil scientist to understand soil characteristics, with planting designers to create hydrozone strategies for efficient water application, and with our phytoremediation engineer to integrate nature-based wastewater treatment and irrigation systems. This holistic approach to irrigation design delivers precision in water management, supporting lush, water-smart landscapes.
Water Treatment
Our environmental engineering service delivers nature-based solutions using plants to treat wastewater. Reed bed systems not only manage wastewater sustainably but also create habitats for wildlife and enhance biodiversity. Wolfram Sievert works closely with our landscape architects to deliver vibrant and functional landscapes that also provide wastewater treatment, adding value to the design process.
Horticulture
Led by Bruce, a seasoned horticulturist with over 30 years of global experience, our horticulture expertise ensures plant selections are resilient and well-suited to their context. Using our rule-based planting design workflow, Bruce plays a key role in managing plant requirements and characteristics to ensure our workflows are accurate and deliver quality results. Drawing on his work across the Middle East, North Africa, and South Africa, Bruce combines technical precision with an in-depth understanding of local conditions to create vibrant, functional, and beautiful green spaces. His skills in plant production, horticultural management, and landscape planning guarantee that each project is tailored to thrive in its unique environment.
Urban Forestry
Nihal Al Sabbagh guides the urban design process to ensure optimal cooling performance of the landscape. She plays a key role in informing our rule-based planting design workflow and uses industry best practices along with leading environmental software tools to simulate urban thermal comfort, guiding the strategic placement of shade, airflow, and cooling materials to combat extreme heat.
Urban Thermal Comfort Modelling
Our urban forestry services focus on the continued care and management of urban forests. This includes providing expansive canopies that reduce urban temperatures, improve air quality, and create welcoming spaces. We conduct tree inventories, capture essential data, and establish data collection methodologies to ensure informed decisions for long-term urban forest health. Russell Horsey, our urban forester, guides the development of continued care contracts, measuring and maximising efficiency to ensure these tree-filled environments thrive and transform cities into cooler, greener, and more liveable spaces.
